Category Analytics
Location: Sidebar → Data & Strategy → Category Analytics
🔒 Requires the Advanced plan or higher
Category Analytics draws on a vast pool of aggregated data and supports cascading drill-down through the category tree. Use it to quickly gauge the competitive heat and lifecycle stage of each sub-category — and surface potential high-return blue-ocean niches.
Core Features
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Platform-wide overview | A KPI dashboard showing total products, level-4 category count, average FBT price, average Leadtime price, in-stock rate and more |
| Top-level category table | Product count, average price, in-stock rate and health score for every top-level category |
| Level-4 category analysis | Click a top-level category to drill into competitive data for all its level-4 categories |
| Category detail | Click a level-4 category for deep multi-dimensional analysis: price band distribution, brand market share, HHI index, seller competition and more |
| Category leaderboard | Rank categories by health score, product count, average price, in-stock rate or HHI index to surface the best opportunities fast |
| Data snapshot | Shows the snapshot number and date of the source data |
Key Metrics
| Metric | Meaning |
|---|---|
| FBT | Fulfilment by Takealot — data for products stocked into the platform's warehouses |
| Leadtime | Data for non-warehoused, lead-time products shipped by the seller directly |
| Health score | A composite score of category opportunity (≥60 excellent / 40–59 average / <40 poor) |
| HHI index | The Herfindahl–Hirschman Index, measuring market concentration (<1000 low / 1000–2500 moderate / >2500 highly monopolised) |
| Competition level | Competition rating based on average offer count (exclusive / low / medium / high / fierce) |
💡 Sourcing tip: pay special attention to sub-categories with a health score ≥ 60 and an HHI index < 1000 — that combination usually signals a market in healthy growth, before any winner-takes-all monopoly has set in.
